Does this website belong to Mr. Susilo?
No. My name is Nurani (or some know me simply as Rani) and this is my website. Yes, my website not Mr. Susilo's. People often mistaken because it's called susilo dot typepad dot com. The only explanation for this - why Susilo and not Nurani - is because my husband was the one who subscribed to typepad, not because I love him very much so I add his name to all my possessions.
Alas, if any wrongdoing occurs in this website, I take full responsibility.
So you do all the things in this website?
I write most of the articles, but sometime I simply copy from other publications. This happens when I love a topic but I haven't got the energy to write it myself or because I think I can't write better/clearer than the article already exists. You will find my husband's as well, the same reason with the copy bit, because on some topics he knows better than me. Writing is the only thing I do (and shouting every now and then when there is a problem with this website) . The technical parts of this website are lay on my husband's more capable hand; the design, html, CSS, fixing the problems, and all other complicated matters. Including paying the hosting.
When did you start this website?
2003.
Why?
Because I've got fast internet connection at home and spare time in my hand, when I'm not too busy pretending that I'm busy, the two most basic requirements if you want to start a website (and shopping online). This website is also a good excuse every time my husband cought me spending considerable time in front of computer, so he will think her lovely wife actually doing some works or updating her website, and not doing online shopping, again. Most of the time he's wrong though and only realize it when he checks the credit card bill. But the most important reason is because beside shopping, reading, cooking, and cleaning, I love writing. And writing forces me to read as well as using my brain for other thing rather than for looking yet another bargain.
Why is it called Rumah Kecil?
Rumah Kecil is Indonesian language for Little House. Because our real house is small, literally. And because I was inspired by Little House on the Prairie, the book by Laura I. Wilder and I love the film when I was a little girl.
What subject do you like most to write?
Nothing in particular. I will write any subjects that stuck in my mind when I get time and willingness, at the same time, to write. You will find some are quite interesting subjects and many others are not so interesting. But they're all interesting to me at the time.
Are you working?
I prefer to call myself stay at home mom (SAHM) because any 'work' that I do, if you call it work, is only in my spare time. I write occasionally for one of the biggest newspaper group in Indonesia. Oh and I also cook, believe it or not. Not only for my family but people actually ask me to cook for them and pay me to do so (I know!) .
How long have you been married?
I was married in 2000 to a brilliant man called M. Susilo and we have lived in London since then. We have two delightful girls, Kirana Prita Susilo (born in 2000) and Alisha Nadia Susilo (born in 2004).
In previous life I was a journalist in Jakarta, Indonesia. Before Jakarta and Depok, where I spend my university years, I lived in a region call Banyumas in Central Java, which included Banjarnegara (born), Purbalingga (childhood) and Purwokerto (high school).
What computer do you use?
Mostly I work with my Apple MacBook. Because it makes my life a lot easier, like I don't have to turn off/ on the computer. It will be on/off automatically every time I open/close the monitor. Also by being wireless I can carry it anywhere, which is useful when in the middle of browsing the internet I need to go to the toilet. And because my favourite place to write is in my bed, the PC will bring more trouble.
What kind of camera do you use?
I use Canon DSLR (EOS 400D) for my pictures. I use 50mm lense most of the time. It doesn't break the bank but the pictures are spectacular.
Do you read other personal websites?
Yes. I love reading Dooce, the Time's alpha Mummy and some other interesting websites.
Can I leave a comment in your website?
Of course, as long as it contains only nice words, if not then I will remove it or may be even ban you from leaving any comment in the future. There is a fine line between expressing a different opinion and hatred.
How many hits (readers) do you have every day?
Enough to attract adverts but not enough to pay our mortgage or make my husband quit from his daily work.
How do I contact you?
Just leave a message and your contact details (preferably an email address) on the comment box, which is available on most of the postings. Please bear in mind, sometimes it take a long time for me to get back to you.
